PRESIDENT BUSH TO LIGHT STATE TREE DESIGNED BY LOCAL VOLUNTEERS DURING LIGHTING OF NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE |
|
- November 29, 2005 (Washington, DC) -- On December 1, 2005, at 5 PM (ET), the President of the United States of America George Bush will light the state trees during the 82nd LIGHTING OF THE NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE on the Ellipse near The White House in Washington, DC (see the attached list of local state organizations that designed the state trees).
âVolunteers from all the states, territories and the District of Columbia have given their time and talents to design and create tree ornaments that symbolize the history, the heritage, and the culture of their homelands,â commented Audrey Hartzell, state tree coordinator. âThousands of Washingtonians and visitors to the nationâs Capital will view the National Christmas Tree and the state trees this holiday season. Each organization has represented their state through creativity representing the great, diverse and unique riches of each state to create the âPathway to Peace.ââ
The state trees are lit during the Christmas Pageant of Peace ÂŽ event featuring performances by volunteer entertainers, the Presidentâs Christmas message, and the lighting of the National Christmas Tree. The Opening Ceremony of the 2005 Christmas Pageant of Peace will include performances by:
⢠United States Navy Band
⢠Ricky Skaggs
⢠Maya Angelou
⢠CeCe Winans
⢠The VOENA Children's A Capella Choir
⢠Dale Kristien
⢠Brad Oscar
⢠Merlin Olsen
Biographies of each performer, details of the event and history of the Christmas Pageant of Peace are available at www.pageantofpeace.org. Satellite feed broadcast information is available at the end of this release.
The lighting ceremony is the beginning of three weeks of celebration in music for the Christmas Pageant of Peace. Each night during December, musical groups primarily from the Washington area perform for the entertainment of visitors to the Ellipse.

***Because of Hurricane Katrina the museum staff was unable to craft ornaments for this tree. In the spirit of giving, all the states and territories offered an ornament of their own so that the Louisiana tree would stand proudly, bearing the gifts of all Americans this Christmas.
